Shikoku Real Estate Inc. and its then-CEO Kazuo Kataoka repeatedly buried approximately 373 tons of concrete debris, waste from dismantling retaining walls, at a construction site between August and October of Reiwa 2 (2020). On May 17, Reiwa 4 (2022), the Kochi District Court sentenced the company to a fine of 3 million yen and Mr. Kataoka to two years in prison (probation for four years) and a fine of 2 million yen for violations of the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law (Law No. 137 of 1970). These violations constitute grounds for suspension of business under Article 28, Paragraph 1, Item 3 of the Construction Business Act. Consequently, on October 3, 2022, Kochi Prefecture suspended all construction business activities of the company under the Building Business Act.
