The former representative director of Tanaka Construction was convicted of obstructing a public contract related to the large-scale renovation of the Kazuno Tourism Furusato Museum (main construction work), which was subject to a public competitive bidding process conducted by Kazuno City on May 21, 2019. The individual received information about the project price and its breakdown from the former mayor of Kazuno City, facilitated the company's winning bid through false pretenses, and thereby impaired the fairness of the bidding process. The conviction was for violating the Public Contract Obstruction Law, resulting in a sentence of one year in prison with a three-year suspension, finalized on July 25, 2022, at the Akita District Court. This constitutes a violation of Article 28, Paragraph 1, Item 2 of the Construction Business Act. As a result, the Akita Prefectural government has ordered a one-year suspension of construction-related business activities involving public works, from October 8, 2022, to October 7, 2023. The suspension was due to the conviction of the former CEO for interfering with a public bidding process, which is grounds for disciplinary action under the Construction Business Act.
