Between November 21 and 22, 2024, the Tohoku Transport Bureau conducted a safety audit of Fukushima Kotsu Co., Ltd. Based on the results, the bureau identified deficiencies related to the health examinations of train operators. Specifically, some drivers (including one in the vehicle depot) were allowed to operate trains despite not meeting the standards specified in Ministerial Ordinance No. 8-2 and internal regulations, particularly regarding visual acuity. Additionally, the results of health examinations for all drivers, as notified by medical institutions, differed from the standards but were not verified to ensure they did not hinder train operation. The company is instructed to take appropriate measures for personnel who may lack the necessary fitness to operate trains and to revise management systems to confirm fitness before assigning train operation duties.
