The former representative director of the construction company, who was responsible for overseeing all operations and was the company's representative at the time, conspired with an employee to commit insurance fraud. He intentionally damaged properties during inspections to falsely claim typhoon damage, submitted false estimates and insurance claims to insurance companies, and deceived insurance company employees into believing the claims were legitimate, resulting in the payment of insurance money. Specifically: (1) Between March 25, 2019, and July 22, 2019, he damaged slate roofing with a crowbar, causing damages worth 973,728 yen, and submitted false estimates and claims indicating typhoon damage, leading to a payment of 1,479,222 yen. (2) He damaged slate roofing on four apartment buildings, causing damages worth 5,377,363 yen, submitted false estimates and claims as if caused by a typhoon, and received 6,638,993 yen. (3) During a property inspection, he damaged his own house, caused damages worth 1,526,007 yen, and submitted false estimates and claims, resulting in a payout. (4) On September 14, 2020, he damaged a house himself during an inspection, causing damages worth 918,500 yen, and submitted false estimates and claims claiming damage from a typhoon on October 12, 2019. The fraud was uncovered by an investigation company, and the attempt was thwarted. As a result of these actions, the former representative director was sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment under Articles 246, 250, and 260 of the Penal Code (Law No. 45 of 1907), with the sentence finalized on August 13, 2022.
