The director of Sunada Construction Co., Ltd. was involved in an incident on September 8, 2023, at the construction site of the Disaster Prevention Reinforcement Measures for the Sōzu River water system, where a large sandbag being lifted by a rotating crane contacted a worker (also a director) and caused him to fall into the river, resulting in death. The director was found to have neglected the duty of care to confirm the presence and safety of surrounding workers and to evacuate them from the crane's rotating range before operating the crane. On March 22, 2024, he was issued a summary fine by the Ainan Summary Court for professional negligence resulting in death, and the sentence was finalized. This constitutes a violation of Article 28, Paragraph 1, Item 3 of the Construction Business Act.
