On July 17, 2018, at a tunnel construction site in Yakumo Town, Futami District, Hokkaido, Fujitomo Kogyo Co., Ltd., as the primary subcontractor, used a tractor and shovel to perform roadbed leveling work. During this work, one worker was hit and killed. Subsequently, on December 11, 2020, the company and a former employee received a summary order from Hakodate Summary Court for violating the Industrial Safety and Health Act, each fined 200,000 yen, for failing to take necessary measures to prevent danger to workers from contact with operating machinery. Additionally, on December 9, 2020, Yagumo Summary Court issued a summary order for professional negligence resulting in death (fined 500,000 yen) to the former employee who, while driving the tractor and shovel, negligently reversed without sufficient safety checks and hit a worker behind him. The penalties from these summary orders have been finalized. This constitutes a violation of Article 28, Paragraph 1, Item 3 of the Construction Business Act.
