令和５年（２０２３年）３月１８日、熊本県宇城市豊野町の伐採・伐根処分整地工事現場において、有限会社渡辺工務店の代表取締役が解体用機械である解体用つかみ機を運転し、丸太をダンプトラックへ積載中、解体用つかみ機で掴んでいた丸太が落下し、近くにいた労働者の背中に当たり、死亡する事故が発生した。 この件に関し、解体用機械を用いて作業を行うに際し、物体の飛来等により労働者に危険が生ずるおそれのある箇所に労働者を立ち入らせないための措置が講じられていなかったことで、同社及び同社代表取締役に対し、熊本簡易裁判所から労働安全衛生法違反によりそれぞれ罰金１５万円の略式命令があり、令和６年（２０２４年）２月１５日、その刑が確定した。
