牧本技建工業株式会社が一次下請として請け負った美里町発注の公共工事において、令和2年（2020年）12月21日、二次下請会社の労働者が用水路に墜落し負傷する事故が発生した。 この件に関し、墜落による労働者の危険防止措置を講じなかったこと及び労働者が負傷し4日以上休業したにも関わらず、所轄の熊本労働基準監督署長に対し、遅滞なく、労働者死傷病報告を提出せず、法定に定める報告をしなかったことで、熊本簡易裁判所から労働安全衛生法違反により、同社及び同社代表取締役に対しそれぞれ罰金40万円の略式命令があり、令和4年（2022年）6月14日、その刑が確定した。
